-------------------------------------------------------------------- COLLOQUIUM OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS School of Computational Sciences (CSI 898-Sec 001) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Hydrodynamic Optimization Using Integrated CFD Tools Chi Yang, School of Computational Sciences,George Mason University Computational simulations are making significant contributions to many important areas of naval hydromechanics. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in particular is proving to be extremely useful in submarine and ship design. This seminar will present an integrated hierarchy of CFD tools for ship design and hull-form optimization. The following related subject would be discussed, * Toolkit for practical design and hull form optimization, including CAD and automatic unstructured grid generators; * Three linear-potential-flow methods for predicting the flow due to a ship advancing in waves and far-field wave patterns; * An near-field flow calculation method based on Euler equations, unstructured grid, and finite element method for large-scale ship-flow simulation; * Hydrodynamic optimization of a trimaran using a simple CFD solver and a gradient-based optimization technique. The future outlook of hydrodynamic optimization will also be addressed. Monday , February 10, 2003 4:30 pm Room 206, Science & Tech. I Refreshments will be served at 4:15 PM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Find the schedule at http://www.csi.gmu.edu/lcdm/seminar/schedule.html
