-------------------------------------------------------------------- SEMINAR OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS Institute for Computational Sciences and Informatics CSI 929 (http://science.gmu.edu/physics/seminar/schedule.html) -------------------------------------------------------------------- EVALUATION OF RISC ARCHITECTURES Daniel Tabak Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering George Mason University Today's most prominent RISC systems may be differentiated by their architecture, organization and implementation. Examples are: DEC Alpha AXP 21064, 21164. IBM, Motorola, Apple PowerPC. MPC 601, 603, 604, 620. Sun Microsystems and TI SuperSPARC. UltraSPARC. MIPS R4000 family, R8000, R10000. Intel i860 family. i860XP. Motorola M88000 family. MC88110. HP Precision Arcitecture. PA7100. In this seminar I will provide with a comparison of the above RISC systems from the standpoint of technology, architectural properties, ILP features, memory and cache hierarchy, pipeline structure, and multiprocessing features. In addition, a discussion on benchmark performance for the above systems and a comparison with the performance of Intel CISC Pentium will be addressed.
