The exotic behavior of these systems have attracted experimentalists, theoreticians as well as mathematicians for last two decades. These systems are inbetween periodic and random systems and exhibit phase transition in one dimension. In this talk I will review properties of such systems and describe some of my very recent results. This will include " Self-Similarity and Localization" in two-dimensional electron gas and " Devil-Staircase Phonons" in Frankel-Konterova model. The later problem is related to the famous standard area-preserving map in the theory of non-integrable Hamiltonian systems. Monday , April 15 1996 5:00 pm Room 206, Science & Tech.
