Martinez-Miranda Dept. of Materials and Nuclear Engineering, Univerity of Maryland Liquid Crystal Display response depends in part on the uniformity of the molecules' alignment with respect to the surface of the substrate used. The materials are confined in cells which alter their structural behavior from that found in the bulk. In this presentation, we present results of X-ray studies of the alignment of partially confined smectic liquid crystal cells and discuss how these results aid in understanding the response and reliability of displays. Monday, April 6 1998 4:30 pm Room 206, Science & Tech. I Refreshments will be served. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (http://www.csi.gmu.edu/lcdm/seminar/schedule.html)
