-------------------------------------------------------------------- COLLOQUIUM OF THE LABORATORY FOR COMPUTER DESIGN OF MATERIALS School of Computational Sciences (CSI 898-Sec 001) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction to Micro-Continuum Field Theory James Lee Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, George Washington Univ., Washington D.C. In a micro-continuum field theory (micropolar theory) the material body is envisioned as a continuous collection of deformable point particles. Each point particle has independent degrees of freedom for rigid rotations in addition to the classical translation degrees of freedom of the center of the point particle. Then the balance laws for mass, microinertia, momenta(linear and angular), energy and entropy can be derived. Constitutive relations for different classes of materials can be formulated. The link to mesoscopic and microscopic physical models will be discussed Monday , April 2, 2001 4:30 pm Room 206, Science & Tech. I Refreshments will be served at 4:15 PM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Find the schedule at http://csi.gmu.edu/lcdm/seminar/schedule.html
