-------------------------------------------------------------------- SEMINAR OF THE DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS GROUP Institute for Computational Sciences and Informatics -------------------------------------------------------------------- Assembling the Molecular Machine Shop--Steps Towards Chemical and Spatial Surface Modification at the Molecular Level Bruce Paul Gaber Laboratory for Molecular Interfacial Interactions Naval Research Laboratory, Washington D.C. I propose that it is possible to pattern a surface with near-molecular precision using as machine tool the atomic force microscope (AFM). In particular, I suggest that AFM tips modified with active enzymes can be used as "tool bits" to bring about highly specific chemical modifications on monomolecular surfaces of biomolecules. I will discuss our progress towards assembling a "Molecular Machine Shop" capable of achieving this goal. Monday , March 27, 1995 5:30 pm Room 206, Science & Tech.
