Krowne Microwave Technology Branch, Electronics Science & Technology Division Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC Abstract There has been much interest in the last decade, in incoherent and coherent addressing of quantum states to effect slow light (SL), EIT (electromagnetic induced transparency), and LHM (left-handed materials) behavior, using the microscopic properties of materials. There has been a going back and forth also between macroscopically or nanoscopically realized and quantum mechanically realized SL EIT, and LHMs. This talk will give some background for the fundamental physics, optics, and electronics of in LHMs, the theoretical analytical and numerical approaches, and the applications [1].
